Tom Shorrock is the Operations Manager for the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award for
Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates; as well as responsible for UAE Development.
Tom worked in Industry for 6 years in the UK & France. Having completed all three levels of the
Award himself, he worked with schools and a Cadet Force in his local area to help with the Duke of
Edinburgh Award.
It was during his involvement with the cadet force and local schools, he made the decision to
become a Science teacher and trained through the Graduate Teacher Training Programme. Having
taught in the UK, Tom went on to teach in Qatar, Bahrain and Abu Dhabi. It was whilst in Abu Dhabi
that the opportunity to work for the Award arose.
In his spare time, he enjoys developing his passion for non-formal education through writing articles.
He enjoys all sorts of sporting activities; anything that involves being in the outdoors (sea kayaking
especially). He likes to explore the world and travel, a sucker for a good train journey!
