Kate McMillan is a respected educational professional and leader in Inclusion. A teacher, special educator and school counsellor, with 20 years’ experience in early years, private and public educational settings, she has Masters of Education in both Special Education and School Counselling, and her particular interest in adolescent mental health and wellbeing in the UAE, forms the basis of her current doctoral research. She is trained in the administration of the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy for Trauma in Schools and Positive Handling, and is qualified for School Inspections, Safeguarding and Child Protection and teaching children for whom English is an additional language. Kate regularly delivers professional development on child protection, safer recruitment, and special educational needs, in support of early identification, and effective intervention. As Group Head of Safeguarding and Inclusion for Aldar Education, Kate works in partnership with government departments, regulatory authorities and clinical specialists, driving the strategic development of provision for People of Determination in educational settings and the development of life skills and vocational pathways.
